FAQs

Common questions about woodwork & trim painting

1

Should I choose gloss or satin for my skirting boards and woodwork?

Satin has largely replaced high-gloss as the preference for most homes — it's durable, washable, and less unforgiving of surface imperfections than a full gloss. High gloss remains a popular choice in period properties. We'll discuss the options and help you choose.

2

The existing woodwork has lots of old brush marks and built-up paint — can this be fixed?

Yes, though it requires additional preparation. We sand back the worst areas and use a fine surface filler to smooth them out. For heavily built-up doors, stripping back to bare wood and starting fresh gives the best result — we'll advise on what's warranted for your particular woodwork.

3

Do you fill the gap between the skirting board and the floor or wall?

Yes — we apply flexible decorator's caulk to gaps between skirting boards and walls before painting, and we can also use flexible sealant along the bottom of the skirting where it meets the floor. This gives a neat finish and helps draught-proof the room.
